Google Streetview goes Antarctic

Google headed south and captured Robert Falcon Scott’s historic hut using stunning 360° panoramas and Google Streetview. Scott’s hut is located on the remote Hut Point Peninsula in Antarctica. Frozen in time, the hut was built to house the crew of Scott’s British Antarctic Expedition of 1910-13 and, according to the info on Google’s site, “canned food sits on the shelves, the London Illustrated News lies carelessly tossed on a desk in one corner, and the darkroom of expedition photographer Herbert Ponting is intact with chemicals and plates.”

It’s a rare opportunity to visit Antarctica and Google’s given us a taste. Take a tour of polar exploration history from the comfort of your own home.
